Outline of GHG Mitigation Activity

With the Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development Project (POISED), ADB is helping the Maldives transform existing energy grids into a hybrid renewable energy system of solar photovoltaics, energy storage and energy efficient diesel generators with energy management systems (EMS) in 160 outer islands. In Addu Atoll, 1.6 MW of solar PV was installed under the project, and additional support by the JFJCM is provided to introduce advanced battery storage system and EMS. The systems will:

・Smooth out the fluctuation of solar PV generation

・Optimize diesel generator operation

・Integrate large amounts of renewables to the grid
