Japan and Republic of Kazakhstan Sign the Memorandum of Cooperation for Establishing the JCM

  On October 30, 2023, H.E. Mr. YAMADA Jun, Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan, and H.E. Mr. NYSSANBAYEV Yerlan, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Kazakhstan. As a result, the JCM will officially launch in Kazakhstan, making it the twenty-eighth partner country along with Mongolia, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Maldives, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Palau, Cambodia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, Senegal, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Georgia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Papua New Guinea, the United Arab Emirates, and Kyrgyz.

  Japan will contribute to the achievement of the nationally determined contributions (NDCs) of both countries by implementing emission reduction projects, etc. in Kazakhstan through the JCM. In addition, Japan will contribute to global decarbonization by implementing the JCM as a market mechanism consistent with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, promoting greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals on a global scale as well as sustainable development.
