5.6MW Geothermal Binary Power Generation Project in Northern Negros
- Representative Participant
- JGC Corporation
Outline of GHG Mitigation Activity
The project introduces a new 5.6 MW binary geothermal power plant in Northern Negros Island. As a superior decarbonization technology, Organic Rankine Cycle is adopted to enable geothermal power generation at relatively low temperatures, resulting in clean and stable power generation. Generated electricity is sold to electric power companies through grid to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
This project contributes to the achievement of the Philippines‘ policy for a renewable energy ratio target of 35% in 2030.
Expected GHG Emission Reductions
9,727 tCO2-eq./year
= (Reference GHG emissions) – (Project GHG emissions)
・ Reference GHG emissions
= (Quantity of the electricity generated by the project) [MWh/year]
×Emission factor [tCO₂/MWh]
・ Project GHG emissions
= CO₂ emissions contained in NCG* [tCO2 /year]
+ CH4 emissions contained in NCG [tCH4 /year] × CH4 Global Warming Potential [tCO2e/tCH4]
*NCG: Non-Condensable Gas
