Outline of GHG Mitigation Activity

This project installs Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with an output/storage capacity of 98 MW/294 MWh at Huatacondo PV Plant in Tarapaca Region.

The project replaces power generated by burning fossil fuels at night with power charged in BESS during daytime from the existing solar power plant, which full operation has been limited under regulations. This project reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and contributes to achieving Chile’s policy goals.

Expected GHG Emission Reductions

26,412 tCO2-eq./year

= (Reference CO₂ emissions)
– (Project CO₂ emissions)

・ Reference CO₂ emissions
= (Quantity of the electricity sold at night by the project) [MWh/year]
× Emission factor [tCO₂/MWh]

・ Project CO₂ emissions
= 0 [tCO₂/year]
