The Governments of India and Japan signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) on August 7, 2025, as a framework to facilitate the adoption of decarbonization technologies and other mitigation efforts. This is expected to further accelerate the flow of decarbonization business in India going forward.
Maharashtra State in India and Osaka City, a major commercial hub in Japan, have actively advanced cooperation and collaboration in the environment and energy sectors since signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2020.
Furthermore, starting in 2025, with support from Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), “Maharashtra State - Osaka City Collaboration Project to promote the introduction of decarbonization technologies towards achieving carbon neutrality” is being implemented. This project provides various supports including Feasible studies of the introduction of environmental and decarbonization technologies in Maharashtra State, utilizing mechanisms such as the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).
This workshop will introduce the Maharashtra's needs for decarbonization, the JCM, and the decarbonization technologies that are applicable to the state's decarbonization efforts, with the aim of the carbon neutral in Maharashtra.
