Outline of GHG Mitigation Activity
As a part of Accelerating Sustainable System Development Using Renewable Energy Project financed by ADB, JFJCM provides grants for the following subprojects to further accelerate decarbonization of outer islands in Maldives:
(i) Renewable Energy and Advanced Flow Battery Energy Storage Systems
Advanced flow battery energy storage system of 3 MWh each for two target outer islands, namely Dhidhdhoo and Nilandhoo, will be introduced to enable further integration of solar power generation by the private sector. The flow BESS is expected to enable the introduction of approximately 3,700 MWh/year and 2,800 MWh/year of renewable energy generation.
(ii) Ocean Renewable Energy Pilot Project
Current and/or wave power generation with 100 kW capacity will be deployed on a pilot basis in selected outer islands. While there have been a few micro-scale demonstrations of ocean renewable energy technologies in Maldives in the past, this will be the first time to implement the pilot with the proposed scale.
Expected GHG Emission Reductions
4,711 tCO2-eq./year
(i) 4,500 tCO2/year, (ii) 211 tCO2/year
