Title of Feasibility Study (FS) | CDM Feasibility Study for Installation of PV LED Lanterns throughout the Republic of Uganda |
FY | FY 2009 |
Main Implementing Entity | SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. |
FS Partner(s) | Balozi Inc., and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Co., Ltd. |
Location of Project Activity | Uganda |
Summary of FS Report | Summary (PDF164KB) |
Description of Project Activity | In the project activity, SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. will prevail PV LED lantern through distributors. The purpose of this Project is to reduce CO2 emission and to provide safe and bright light to residents by selling high quality PV LED lanterns for an affordable price. |
Targeted GHG | CO2 |
Category of Project Activity | Renewable Energy (Other Source) |
CDM/JI | CDM |
Duration of Project Activity/ Crediting Period |
|
Methodology to be applied | AMS-I.A. (Ver.13) "Electricity generated by the user" |
Baseline Scenario | AMS-I.A. "Electricity generated by the user" is applicable to the Project. In the absence of activity, people would use kerosene lamps as a lighting method. Therefore, the baseline emission of the Project is the amount of CO2 emitted from kerosene lamps when the energy displaced by solar energy. |
Demonstration of Additionality | PV LED lantern installation project will not take place in the absence of the Project activity. This is justified by 1) Investment barrier and 2) Technological barrier. |
Estimation of GHG Emission Reductions | 0.077tCO2/year for each PV LED lantern |
Monitoring Plan | In accordance with AMS I.A, either one of the following two items is required to be monitored.
|
Environmental Impact Analysis | Environmental impact assessment is not required for the Project in the Republic of Uganda. The Project will not impose any negative impact on the environment. |
Project Feasibility | This project utilizes 100% SANYO's equity. This Project meets Uganda government's against kerosene lamp campaign, and attracts attention as a pioneer of BOP business. It is important to install as many units as possible in the early stage of the crediting period. The early implementation of this Project as CDM is aimed with the aids of governmental subsidies and supporting institutions. |
