Following the decision on issuance of credits made at the Fifth Meeting of the Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Maldives and Japan held on December 16, 2025, both governments completed the first international transfer of mitigation outcomes for JCM credits.

Outcomes of the JC include adoption of revised JCM Rules and Guidelines and JCM Guidelines for REDD-plus and Afforestation/Reforestation, no objection to Project Idea Note, exemption of PIN process for existing 22 projects and project registration.
