Outline of GHG Mitigation Activity

Biomass power generation is considered to have the highest potential among the renewable power generation options in Sri Lanka. In this context, 2 small-scale biomass power generation projects will be implemented utilizing Japanese technologies, as model projects.
Based on the model projects, 21 approved biomass power generation projects with energy permits (as of 2012) are expected to be implemented.

Expected GHG Emission Reductions

Site 1 (SLCF) : 25,470tCO2/yr
 Site 2 (UDE) : 50,941tCO2/yr
700,000tCO2/yr will be potentially reduced, if biomass-based power generation target set by SLSEA (133MW/929GWh) is to be achieved by 2020.
