Outline of GHG Mitigation Activity

Kenya's first geothermal plant was implemented in 1981, which utilised Japanese geothermal turbines. As of today, 200MW of geothermal plants in total are under operation, to which Japanese technology has contributed.
The new geothermal projects will be developed and implemented, including Japanese geothermal turbines (70MW x 4 units) to be delivered in 2014.
Kenya places geothermal as a pillar of its long term energy plan. The nation-wide potential of geothermal power is regarded as 7,000MW in Kenya.

Draft JCM Methodology

The JCM methodology applicable to the proposed geothermal projects will be developed by understanding the Kenyan experience in conducting the past CDM projects.
