We are pleased to inform you that the United Nations Environment Programme Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP DTIE IETC), United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP ROAP), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) will jointly organize a “Training Workshop on Integrated Solid Waste Management” on 5-8 October 2009 in Osaka.

UNEP DTIE IETC is assisting national and local governments to develop Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Plans for cities. ISWM aims to cover all types of wastes from all the sectors and to integrate all the stages of ISWM based on 3R approach, namely: waste reduction, source segregation for reuse and recycling, collection and transportation system, transfer stations and material recovery for recycling, treatment and resource recovery and final disposal. ISWM based on 3R approach is a useful system to support poverty alleviation and to promote partnership.
